A mixture of 3.6 g of Na3[Co(CO3)3] * 3H2O (0.01 mole), 3.0 g of acetylacetone (0.03 mole) and 2.0 ml of 70% nitric acid was refluxed for 30 minutes in a 60% acetone-water mixture. The solution was evaporated until a green precipitate appeared. The mixture was cooled and filtered. The product was recrystallized from acetone and water; yield: 3.4 g., 95% of theoretical; 220 C dec.
